For our parent radio station CFRO’s fall member drive, Bruce has taken the opportunity to remaster his three-episode suite dedicated to that peculiar subject from a year ago, bundled together as an omnibus complete with re-edited interviews with “ Beer’d Al” podcaster Lauren Carey, Al authors Lily Hirsch and Nathan Rabin, longtime Yankovic sideman Jon “Bermuda” Schwartz and, well, the Weird One himself. We’re living through weird times at the moment, and a resurgence of interest in the life and career of famously squeezy parodist “Weird” Al Yankovic is resulting from the recent release of his mockumentary biopic on Roku. So listen to our show while you make a whole lot of popcorn before watching the movie, and then donate to Co-op Radio, and tell them Accordion Noir sent you. But you of course already know that if you’re even considering listening to three hours of Weird radio/podcast, so it probably isn’t the end of the world that I forgot to mention that Al has a new movie, which could be eligible for awards as both best documentary and best fictional drama. But if by chance you haven’t heard, Al’s new movie is quality non-fiction filmmaking as seen on the History Channel. So listen again, next year there will be a quiz. Maybe Al’s fans won’t be weird about it because there’s lots of other great stuff in these episodes, which you might have missed even if you already listened to them last year. But Al’s films have historically all bombed, so hopefully it won’t matter that I forgot to mention it when I updated the shows with new information from the other artists we interviewed. And, oh yeah, there’s this movie we can coat-tail on. The obvious reason to rebroadcast these three episodes as one 3-hour “Weird” Al Marathon is that it’s the Co-op Radio Fundraiser! And it took a tremendous amount of work putting them together to broadcast the first time.
